BBG Communications - The Internet has changed our Lives
Innovation and invention in the last 50 years have redefined modern culture in the 21st century. Commercial flights have made the world a smaller place for those who can afford a ticket. Television has changed the way we stay informed and entertained. Computers have organized and streamlined our businesses. However, of all these important inventions, the internet surpasses them all because it completely revolutionizes the way we interact with others and with the world.
The internet introduces new ways to do familiar things. A person can read the newspaper, watch a baseball game, or listen to the radio online, whenever the person chooses to. Instead of going through shelves of books at the library, one can conduct extensive research using the internet. It is an endless research database. Instantaneous email replaces the old-fashioned snail mail. Many choose to do their shopping online because they can access any store at any hour. By conducting all aspects of business online, the internet changes the way we work. It also reforms the educational system by integrating the internet with the lesson, and also by teaching entire classes online. The internet makes everyday tasks quicker and easier.
While quicker and easier makes life more convenient, the invention of the internet is most important because it changes our behavior and the way in which we live. Instead of the world being an unfamiliar, unreachable place, the world is suddenly at our fingertips. Whether for good or bad, the culture influenced by the internet now expects instant gratification. We have instant messaging, instant research, instant news, and instant shopping on the internet, so we expect all other aspects of our lives to be instantaneous as well. Perhaps that is why modern culture always seems to be in a hurry. Not only does the internet speed up our lives, but it also brings them together through endless forms of communication. Web cams allow people to talk face-to-face from across the globe. There is everything from online photo albums to online dating services. The internet changes our relationships and behavior.
The internet is such an incredible invention because it not only simplified everyday tasks, but it also transformed the lifestyle of an entire culture. We can now shop, research, work, and learn faster than ever before. More importantly, we have many new, fast, and complex means of communication. Although these forms of communication are through an impersonal machine, hopefully they can bring the people of the 21st century closer together on a more personal level.
